Eating famous food is a rare enjoyment, but preparing it in the authentic kitchens of its origins is a thrill all of its own. African Relish is established in the tradition of the great chefs who share their brilliance, not only at the table but also in their kitchens, with those whose passion is fabulous food and the secrets that lie behind the cuisine of legends.

South African gastronomy now takes its rightful place in the international showcase through the founding of African Relish in one of the most beautiful villages in the Karoo. Our guests will cook and eat with masters of their culinary domain, and share with them the contemporary gourmet experience of great South African food.

Prince Albert is at the historic heart of the region. Its durability as a calm green refuge through times of drought and deprivation on the great plains that surround it, has been proved and tempered, and it emerges as an exciting living picture book of all that is beautiful and delicious.

Its town gardens and flourishing farms deliver a great diversity of fresh local vegetables, herbs and fruit for use as ingredients in the dishes created by the chefs and guests of African Relish. The region is famous for olives and its annual crops of apricots and spectacular figs. Abundant grape crops are grown in the Prince Albert Valley, where the wine industry is flourishing. Local Karoo lamb is unequalled and the town’s Guernsey dairy has won international fame for its distinctive cheeses.

In its authentic buildings, Prince Albert is the custodian of tradition, fine art and fascinating artifacts, and the gastronomic lore of the pioneer people of the region.
