The landscape comes to your table in the strong, simple flavors such as truffles from oak forests, and the award winning Montefalco wines. The red soil of the Apennine slopes has long held the reputation for producing Italy’s best golden green olive oil. Enjoy splendid pecorino cheeses from the Valnerina, lentils and farro from Castelluccio, and salami and cured meats made from the truffle-eating wild boars around Norcia.
Sample the Sagrantino dry red, which won Italy’s award for the best wine of 1998. This unusual grape grows only between medieval Montefalco and the ancient Roman town of Bevagna.
You stay at a family run country estate, near the medieval hilltown of Montefalco, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The estate still produces its own wine, olive oil and fresh vegetables used to prepare the delicious simple dinners. The proprietors converted a cluster of farm buildings into high quality accommodations with a swimming pool. All rooms have their own bathroom and private entrance. Meals are served in a pleasant dining room or when warm enough, in the shady garden with spectacular views.
