Explore one of Tuscany’s most distinctive culinary regions -- Lucca and the Garfagnana
Traditional flavors + knowledge of Lucca and the Garfagnana lead to a Gastronomic Adventure. Eating, drinking, cooking and meeting the producers – exploring one of Tuscany’s most distinctive culinary regions.
Early autumn, the heat of the summer lingers on, but in the cool, still-green chestnut woods, there are treasures to be found. |
Trek through these chestnut woods, harvest chestnuts. With the help of a very patient local wild mushroom expert, you can “get your eye in” and experience the thrill of discovering the highly prized porcini mushrooms.
Your host, Heather Jarman, is a “guru” in the world of historical and tradition food production and cooking. She divides her year between England and Garfagnana when she is not traveling and lecturing.
Her intimate knowledge of the agriculture and culinary arts of Lucca and the Garfagnana mountain valley has opened up exclusive access to a network of small-holders and small-scale producers in the region – a world that not even the most intrepid travelers could discover for themselves.
We stay at the Hotel Villa Volpi. Located in Mastiano (Lucca), it is an elegantly restored 18th-century traditional farmhouse with 4 star amenities; en-suite bathrooms, a/c, central heating. |
